Help someone this holiday season!

I know finances are tight for everyone this year, and I know that a lot of people find the holiday season especially stressful with all of the pressure to buy gifts for everyone they love. I also know that there are people in worse situations than you and me.

Here is a suggestion. Credit my mother with this one, as it was her idea and something she is doing this year.

In lieu of sending christmas cards and mailing them to friends and family, donate money, food, blankets, or gas/grocery gift cards to a family in need or a homeless shelter.

Instead of buying gifts for your siblings, friends, or retired parents who really dont need another kitchen gadget or talking photo frame, help a family that cant afford to eat or child who is terminally ill and whose family spends all of their money to take care of him/her.

You may be thinking that you cant afford to help a family or give enough to make a difference, but I've learned from experience that any amount is appreciated.

You can let your friends and family know that you are doing this via email or phone calls and ask that they do the same in return as their gift to you.

Try it. Post your story here and share it.

Happy Holidays.

eHarmony going gay?

No. Well, yes. But not because they want to. The California based company has been sued for not having a gay friendly dating service. The law suit states that eHarmony's refusal to offer such a service is discriminatory. If you are not familiar with eHarmony, google it. As a result of the lawsuit and its settlement, eHarmony must start matching gay and lesbian couples by March of next year. In the grand scheme it's petty, I know.

Here is what pisses me off.

1. Instead of just adding a check box to user profiles where they could identify as gay or lesbian (or something along those simple yet inclusive lines), eHarmony is, instead, creating an entirely different SEPARATE site (compatiblepartners.net)! They will include a link to this new SEGREGATED site on their 'traditional' site, but with a disclaimer that their "expertise" is in matching heterosexual couples and that it cannot vouch for matches it provides to gay customers. "

2. Ok, it really chaps my ass when people sue other people or companies just because they can. I don't think that eHarmony should have been sued because they weren't technically breaking any laws. That being said, it is a shame that in 2008 issues of equal rigts are still being fought out in court rooms.

It's sad that these issues still have to be fought at all.

There will be tangents!

OK, so here is the skinny.

I am an under rated lesbian on a mission to make the world a better place. I don't claim to be the smartest chic in the world, but I know that it doesn't take a genius to understand a few things.

*Basic humanity is almost lost.
*Our planet has become a giant landfill and we can only hope that our efforts, late as they may be, can make enough of a difference to salvage what is left for our future generations.
*Bigotry and hatred still find ways to suppress the little progress that we make.

So, I have recruited my friend Gracie to help me blog about events that can, will and are changing the world. We'll talk about issues that piss us off and what we can do about them. We'll blog about things happening around the world that are actually making a good (or at least our opinion of good) impact on the world. Inevitably, we will go on tangents about less relevant matters.

We invite your discussion, but if you make idiotic, ignorant, rude or just plain stupid comments then you will be ignored. We look forward to hearing from those of you with insight, constructive criticism or opinions that can be worded in a civil manner!
